In this evaluation I will be evaluating my own final 3D models. I will discuss what I have done well and what I could improve on. My moles have been based on a combination of three different shows, Supernatural, Doctor Who and Sherlock.
My final pieces are slightly different to how I originally planned them. This is only because at the start of the unit I was struggling to understand the software and so planned my objects to be really simple. However, as I went along I clicked with the software and by the end my objects were fare more complex and realistic than I had planned them to be. I have stuck to all the objects I had originally planned to make without having to change it to something more simple. Since my my final piece was based on three popular shows I modelled objects that everyone who watches them will instantly recognise like the Tardis, Sonic Screwdriver even the Samulet. As I got more confident I even created more models to create a room that my original objects could reside.
I feel that my models have met with their purpose as I wanted to create an animated series combining three popular shows, the room, objects and logo all appear in an animated style and all revolve around the three shows as all the objects created come from the shows. These objects are all highly recognisable by the viewing audience so there will be no confusion as to what it is. This means that it fits my purpose for the objects as it is obvious as to what the objects are.
My production skills and time management were crucial to this unit. I had to research into the objects I decided to make, measurement, materials, specific look. I even had to find out what my sonic screwdriver looked internally so that I could correctly model any showing wiring. The measurement were needed so that when I placed my objects in the room they would look the realistic size for example I didn't want my Tardis and Samulet to be the same size. As for my time management, I needed to spend an equal amount of time on each object but still have time for my other units. I had planned to space out the creation of my objects over a two week period. However, once i got used to the software I had successfully created and finished all my models in about a week. This left me with more than enough time to finish my other units and give me spare time to also create an animation using cinema 4D to expand my knowledge of the software further.
In this unit my main strength was the creation of the models. I spent most of the time modelling fully planning how each object would be made and finding materials that match the real object as much as possible. My next strength would be animating the models as I spent loads of time learning about the keyframes and how they can effect the movement of the models. If I was to return to this unit I would probably stick with a similar theme to this one and just add more detail. If I recreated m Tardis I would model it to have doors that can open and would animate it so the doors open and close. If I recreated my Sonic Screwdriver I would try to model the more complicated version that belongs to the 11th and 12th Doctor. The rest of my models would be improved by adding more detail as even though they are complex I still think they are slightly simpler than they could be.
I believe that my technical skills have improved throughout this unit. I have also come to understand that when I copied my objects I was making my file size bigger and therefore took a long time to render. Next time I would look for other options to copying that wouldn't take up as much data. Since my models took up a lot of data, my software sometime crashed on me and I had to restart my entire mac, to avoid this though I started saving at regular intervals so that if it does crash I didn't lose a lot of my work.
The models I created were Tardis, Sonic Screwdriver, the Samulet, Sherlock's Hat (Deerstalker), Logo and the Men of Letters Bunker. The bunker required a lot of objects to make up the room like Collumns, a Door Frame, Lights, Tables and Chairs, Comfy Chairs and Bookcases. All together these objects create a scene that everyone will recognise.
