To start of with the shape of the samulet, I got a picture of the samulet and entered it into cinema 4D. I then used the bezier spline tool and traced the outside of half the samulet. I then used the lathe tool to create the shape of the samulet.
To create the face of the samulet, I used the spline tool to outline the mouth and nose area and used the extrude nurbz. I then used the boole tool to create the indent the mouth and nose area needed. I then added two torus and made them editable, I then scaled them down to the size of the eyes and used a boole tool to create the indents of the eyes. I also used a oil tank and scaled it down. I positioned it at the top of the samulet and used the boole tool to create the hole that the string connects to.
To create the ring shapes at the top of samulet, I created three torus and scaled them so that they fit the shape of the samulet. I then used a boole tool to create the indents at the top. I then used a spline to map out the swirl at the top. I then added a circle and made both the circle and the spline a child of a sweep nurbz.
To create the ears of the samulet, I used the bezier spline to create the outer part of the ear and the inner part of the ear. I then added a extrude nurbz to both of the splines and used the boole tool to create the indent of the ear. I the created a copy and positioned it at the other side. I the rotated the ear do that it is position correctly on the samulet and brought the inner ear forward so that the indent was on the front and not the back.
To create the horns of the samulet, I mapped out the path of the horns with a spline. I then added a circle and made the circle and spline a child of the sweep nurbz. I then added a hemisphere to both ends on the horns as the sweep nurbz will have given them a flat end. To creat the chin I added a hemisphere to the bottom of the samulet. To create the mouth, I used a spline to create the individual lips and used a extrude nurbz to give them shape.

To create both the ring and the string, I used a spline to map out the paths of both. I then added two circles and made the circle and spline a child of a sweep nurbz. This made both of the spline take on a round shape like string or a curved piece of metal.
